What is the best way to eat courgettes?

  1. Grilled or roasted: Slice the courgettes into rounds or lengthwise wedges and toss them with a little oil and your choice of seasonings. Grill or roast them in the oven until they are tender and lightly charred.
  2. Sautéed: Dice the courgettes and sauté them in a pan with a little oil or butter and your choice of seasonings. You can also add other vegetables, such as onions, bell peppers, and tomatoes, to the pan to create a flavorful stir-fry.
  3. Spiralized: Use a spiralizer to turn courgettes into noodles, or “zoodles.” Sauté the zoodles in a pan with a little oil or toss them with your favorite pasta sauce for a healthier twist on traditional pasta dishes.
  4. Raw: Courgettes can also be eaten raw in salads, sandwiches, or as a crudité with dip.

Is roasted courgette good for you?

Roasted courgette can be a healthy and tasty addition to your diet. Courgettes are a good source of dietary fiber, potassium, and vitamin C, and they are low in calories and fat. Roasting them helps to bring out their natural sweetness and adds a slightly caramelized flavor.

To make roasted courgette, simply slice the courgettes into rounds or lengthwise wedges, toss them with a little oil and your choice of seasonings, and roast them in the oven until tender and lightly caramelized. You can serve them as a side dish or use them as a topping for pizzas, sandwiches, or grain bowls.

It is worth noting that the nutritional value of roasted courgette may vary depending on how it is prepared. For example, adding cheese or other high-fat toppings to the courgettes will increase the dish’s calorie and fat content. Additionally, deep-frying courgettes will significantly increase the fat and calorie content, so it is best to avoid this preparation method if you are trying to eat healthily.

What can I do with a glut of large courgettes?

  1. Grilled or roasted courgettes: Slice the courgettes into rounds or lengthwise wedges and toss them with a little oil and your choice of seasonings. Grill or roast them in the oven until they are tender and lightly charred.
  2. Courgette noodles or “zoodles”: Use a spiralizer to turn the courgettes into noodles, or “zoodles.” Sauté the zoodles in a pan with a little oil or toss them with your favorite pasta sauce for a healthier twist on traditional pasta dishes.
  3. Courgette muffins or bread: Grate the courgettes and mix them into a muffin or bread batter for a moist and flavorful baked good. You can also add other ingredients, such as nuts, seeds, or fruit, to the batter for added flavor and texture.
  4. Courgette fritters: Grate the courgettes and mix them with a beaten egg, some flour, and your choice of seasonings to form a batter. Drop spoonfuls of the batter into a pan with hot oil and fry until golden brown.
  5. Courgette soup: Dice the courgettes and sauté them in a pan with a little oil until they are tender. Add broth, cream, and your choice of seasonings and blend the mixture until smooth. Serve the soup hot, garnished with a sprinkle of herbs or a dollop of sour cream.

Should courgettes be peeled before cooking?

It is not necessary to peel courgettes (also known as zucchini) before cooking them, as the skin is edible and can add texture and nutrients to the dish. Courgette skin is a good source of fiber and contains small amounts of antioxidants, so leaving it on can be beneficial for your health.

That being said, the skin of some courgettes can be tough or bitter, especially if the courgettes are large or overgrown. In this case, you may prefer to peel the courgettes before cooking to remove the tough or bitter parts.

To peel a courgette, use a vegetable peeler or a small paring knife to remove the skin from the flesh. You can then slice, dice, or grate the courgette as needed for your recipe.
